Bern

(with a trip to the Castle of Chillon on the way)

We journeyed for a long time today. As I said, yesterday morning I shopped. Then we took the train back to Tasch and boarded our bus for yet another long journey. Everyone is getting very tired...I think most of us slept for at least an hour along the journey. The castle of Chillon (in French-speaking Switzerland) is beautiful...if I remember correctly, it was pictured on my lit text from high school, and it's still exactly the same! We took a tour of the inside, saw where the Prisoner of Chillon was held and where Lord Byron signed his name on a pillar inside the prison. Here the tour group cheered me for hopping into teacher mode and keeping naughty children (and parents) quiet while our local tour guide was giving us a tour.

Then we travelled to Bern (back in German-speaking Switzerland...zut, alors!) and went to our hotel fairly late and tried to figure out how to make the lights work. After several minutes of trying, we exited our room, only to find the other members of the group out in the hall as well, wondering the same thing. It turns out that the key card that opens the door (and also, we found out later, controls the elevator) fits in a little slot by the door. You need to leave it there in order for the lights to work. (Whatever.)

Today, we take a quick local trip of Bern, stop in Interlaken to go to some waterfalls somewhere, and then go to Lucerne. I can't believe that this part of our journey is almost over! We need to leave our hotel around 5:30 the day after tomorrow to take our flight to Prague.

Not much else to say today. I'm glad you guys like the pictures...that is only a VERY small percentage of the volumes of pictures I have taken. If I showed you a slide show of all my pictures, at 5 seconds each, you'd probably be sitting for half a day! (Perhaps I exaggerate...a bit!)

Later,

Trace

PS...I tried to call again this morning, but have no idea how telephones work here. I have a feeling you won't be hearing from me via telephone this trip.

Thanks Tracy for the lovely post card we received yesterday from Vienna. Uncle George brought the mail up last night when he got home from the auction, so that was a nice surprise. Sounds like you are having a great time - take care & have fun. Beautiful sunny day here today - going to go & sit by the pool with my friend Glady this afternoon.

Hi Trace!

Just got home a bit ago and had a terrific day--Lynden Fair was as usual just the way a fair should be. We walked around and got a bunch of free pens, pencils, etc. We watched a horse show in the morning at the grandstand and then at 1p.m. there was another horse show, which we enjoyed!!! It was sunny and quite hot --and I sure wished I had some sunscreen. We walked to another aisle and lo and behold some company was giving out sunscreen!! By this time I was already a bit red but I was really thankful for it--I would have burned a way more without it.

When we got home there was a lovely postcard from you for us and Snuggles--yes I read it to her and she even bit a corner. It was like she could smell you on it how excited she got--just like a dog!!!! Thanks for the postcards-- it was so nice hearing from you. Listen, don 't worry about phoning us as it sounds so confusing for you--I,m very content to hear from you on the internet!!!! I feel so very fortunate that we have heard from you as much as we have--and thank you for that!!

Lorraine told me when we got home tonight that Norma had been in the hospital for a couple of days as she has a bad infection in the leg that she had off, so she can.t wear her prosthesis. She is very worried about it as if it doesn't clear up soon she will have to have surgery on it to see what is causing it. They let her home because she has her cat at home, but she still has to go back to the hospital everyday as they give her an antibiotic drip. She is so scared and I can't blame her. Say a prayer for her. I don't know if you took her address but it is
Mrs. Norma Gristhenwaite
6200 Lynas Lane
Richmond, B.C.
V7C 5E4
Canada

You might have taken her address with you but just in case I thought I'd send it.

Have a good time in Lucerne today. Take care and GodBless.

Hi traveller to many countries!!

I see you will soon be off to Prague, Czech Republic. Another wonderful experience!!! I'm sure you will enjoy everything about it, and capture many great buildings , and bridges on film. I'm picturing the bridge with all the beautiful statues on it and now you will see it in person--how nice!!!!

Dad has gone to have lunch with B ruce today, but he sends his best to you!!

I'm sure burned from yesterday in Lynden, but enjoyed it all-- it was fun. Tomorrow I'm going up to Highgate with Bev and Barb...wish us luck.

It is another warm, sunny day, but is supposed to change tomorrow.

Take care and have a safe and wonderful flight to Prague!!!!

Lots of LOVE, MOM AND DAD xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
